Light Night Leeds: Fractures
About
A free immersive music and light installation for Light Night Leeds blending Monteverdi's Orfeo with Indian classical music, led by Kaviraj Singh.
Fractures is an immersive music and light installation inspired by Jasdeep Singh Degun's award-winning Orpheus, which fuses Monteverdi's Orfeo with Indian classical traditions. Musical Director Kaviraj Singh performs on santoor and voice, joined by soprano Amy Freston, harpsichordist Annette Saunders, cellist Liz Hanks and Camillo Tirado on tabla and live electronics. The musicians appear as soloists, in duets and as an ensemble from all sides of the Howard Assembly Room, with acoustic and live electronic improvisations and immersive lighting transforming the space. Commissioned and produced by Opera North for Light Night Leeds 2026, the installation runs from 6pm to 9.30pm on both evenings.
