Stories from Castle Hill: The Highlands at War

An illustrated history talk by Lorna Steele-McGinn on the Highlands at war, from the Lovat Scouts to the Special Military Area.

Highland Archive Service Community Engagement Officer Lorna Steele-McGinn delivers an illustrated talk on how war shaped the Highlands. She covers the creation of the Lovat Scouts by Highland gamekeepers during the Boer War, the use of Lochaber's terrain for training WWII commandos, and why much of the Highlands was repeatedly designated a special military area. The hour-long talk includes tea, coffee and a scone, though the ticket does not cover entry to the main Castle Experience.
