Stories from Castle Hill: William Fraser Tytler
About
An illustrated history talk by Lorna Steele-McGinn on William Fraser Tytler and his role in shaping Inverness and the Highlands.
Highland Archive Service Community Engagement Officer Lorna Steele-McGinn gives an illustrated talk on William Fraser Tytler — writer, historian, lawyer and sheriff — whose travels across the Highlands saw him intervene in famine-stricken communities and shape the region's development. The talk covers his complex legacy, including inheriting enslaved people on a Jamaican plantation and instigating the construction of the present-day Inverness Castle in the 1830s and 1840s. Tea, coffee and a scone are included; the ticket does not cover access to the main Castle Experience.
