Taking Victims Seriously: Abolitionism, Minimalism and Punishment as Equality Affirming - Professor Ekow N. Yankah
About
A free public lecture by Professor Ekow N. Yankah examining penal abolitionism and the justification of punishment.
Professor Ekow N. Yankah, Thomas M. Cooley Professor of Law and professor of philosophy at the University of Michigan, delivers a talk on the rise of the penal abolitionist movement. The lecture explores the abolitionist critique of prisons as instruments of racial, class and capitalist domination, and its scepticism of punishment as such, unified by an ethos that views state punishment as regrettable, shameful or tragic. The event takes place in person at the Institute of Criminology and is also live streamed, with free entry but advance booking required.
