Metropolis – Film with Live Music
About
Northern Silents marks the centenary of Fritz Lang's Metropolis with a live-scored screening featuring an improvised score by Frame Ensemble.
Exactly one hundred years after Metropolis premiered in Berlin on 10 January 1927, Northern Silents presents a centenary screening of Fritz Lang's restored silent masterpiece, which was cut by a quarter after its premiere until missing scenes were rediscovered in Argentina in 2008. Frame Ensemble — Jonny Best (piano), Susannah Simmons (violin), Liz Hanks (cello) and Trevor Bartlett (percussion) — will improvise a live score, responding spontaneously to the film and the atmosphere in the room. The screening runs approximately 2 hours 30 minutes plus an interval, and the film is rated PG.
