Curator talk: Minerals of the Bristol Region

A curator talk on the colourful minerals of the Bristol region, exploring their history, uses and beauty through examples from the exhibition and museum collections.

Geology Curator Deborah Hutchinson explores the mineral story of the Bristol region, whose diverse rocks have been formed and folded over millions of years. The talk focuses on three colours — red, blue and purple — covering heavenly crystals, ancient rivers, sparkling diamonds and underground spirits. It draws on examples in the exhibition and the museum's geological collections to discuss the history, uses and beauty of minerals.
