About

A lecture by Peter Ross tracing the history of British Christmas food, from medieval boar's head to the Twelfth Night Cake.

The Arts Society Harpenden Area hosts a lecture by Peter Ross on the history of Christmas food in Britain. The talk traces the story from medieval boar's head and brawn through decorated seventeenth-century mince pies to the largely forgotten Twelfth Night Cake. It draws on medieval illuminated manuscripts, paintings, prints and cookery book illustrations to show the visual splendour of past Christmas feasts.
