3 Day NNAS Straight to Silver Navigation Course: Off-Path Compass Skills
About
A three-day intensive map and compass navigation course around Roseberry Topping taking walkers from beginner level to NNAS Silver off-path navigation.
This intensive three-day course combines the NNAS Bronze and Silver awards into one programme, running 9am-4pm each day from Friday 29 to Sunday 31 January 2027. Day one covers map orientation, scale, landforms and basic compass work; day two moves to fine contour reading, accurate bearings across open country and coarse versus fine navigation; day three is a practical integration day on open terrain. Training takes place around Roseberry Topping, Urra Moor and Clay Bank on the north-western edge of the North York Moors, with certification accredited by the National Navigation Award Scheme and instruction by Mountain Leader Fabian Seymour.
