About

A free screening of Mati Diop's Golden Bear-winning Dahomey with a commissioned musical response, artwork postcards and an audience-led discussion.

This is the first of five film screenings at art'otel London Hoxton under REDEYE's 'human rights on screen' theme, asking what it means to assert your humanity against systems that deny it. The film is Mati Diop's Dahomey, which won the Golden Bear at the 2024 Berlinale and follows looted colonial artefacts narrating their return to Africa from European museums. On arrival attendees hear a commissioned playlist by a musician of non-Western background and receive a postcard of an original artwork responding to the film. After the screening the host leads an audience-focused discussion, moving between small group conversations before opening to the full room.
