mac Birmingham screens a 4K restoration of Ken Russell's The Devils, cut to the director's specifications and billed as the first publicly released version of the film as he intended. The film stars Oliver Reed and Vanessa Redgrave in an epic inspired by the true story of 17th-century priest Urbain Grandier, accused of bewitching a convent of nuns, exploring religious persecution, collective hysteria and the collusion of church and state. The restoration also highlights the work of cinematographer David Watkin, editor Michael Bradsell and production designer Derek Jarman, whose set design marked his feature film debut. Screenings run daily from 30 October to 5 November 2026.
