Taking Centre Stage: Female Artists in The Atkinson’s Collection
About
A free exhibition at The Atkinson celebrating women artists from its fine art collection, from Alice Mary Havers to Tracey Emin.
This exhibition charts the work of women artists held in The Atkinson's fine art collection, spanning from traditional representation to contemporary practice, and features figures such as Alice Mary Havers, Dame Laura Knight and Dame Tracey Emin. It addresses the under-representation of women artists in museum collections and highlights the gallery's collecting since the 1870s, including painting, sculpture, ceramics, textiles, photography, film and digital art. Visitors are invited to consider the range of creative voices on show and to contribute to a conversation about the future direction of the collection.
