Pioneering the Potential 2026 - Homegrown 02 - New Bricks for Old

A Lewes talk evening featuring Ben Bosence on Local Works Studio's Gent Waste Brick for Design Museum Gent and Alice Hardy on Global Generation's New Story Garden hub.

This evening talk, organised by Fourth Door, presents two speakers on community-led and low-carbon building. Ben Bosence, co-founder of Sussex materials studio Local Works Studio, discusses the Gent Waste Brick developed with Design Museum Gent, architects Carmody Groarke and BC Materials — a brick made from local waste that cuts carbon by two thirds. Alice Hardy, Global Generation's Community Build Manager and a former architect, speaks about the Triangle New Story Garden, a permanent community hub combining urban food growing, self-build, cooking, storytelling and reflection. The event runs for two hours in person.
