Theatre Royal Winchester shows a cinema screening of Peter Wright's The Nutcracker, a production first premiered by the Royal Ballet in 1984. The story follows the magician Herr Drosselmeyer, whose nephew Hans-Peter has been transformed into a Nutcracker and can only be saved by defeating the Mouse King and finding a girl to love him — hope arriving in the form of young Clara, whom Drosselmeyer meets at a Christmas party. The screening features Tchaikovsky's familiar melodies and Julia Trevelyan Oman's designs, and is billed as suitable for all ages.
