About

A BIICL panel discussion on the conceptual and practical questions the International Law Commission faces in its work on due diligence in international law, chaired by the topic's Special Rapporteur.

In 2025 the International Law Commission added "Due diligence in international law" to its programme of work, appointing Penelope Ridings as Special Rapporteur. This BIICL panel discussion explores the conceptual and practical questions the Commission is likely to face in codifying and progressively developing the law in this area, including the nature, scope and content of due diligence obligations. Penelope Ridings chairs and introduces the Commission's work; speakers include Sir Michael Wood KC, Laura Rees-Evans and Professor Lavanya Rajamani. The event runs 17:30–19:00 with registration from 17:00, offers 1.5 CPD hours, and is followed by a reception.
