Lameness Control – Keep Your Flock a Step Ahead
About
A free Farm Advisory Service session on sheep lameness, combining talks at the Trentham Hotel with a practical farm visit to Davochfin.
Lameness is one of the most important welfare issues in the sheep industry, costing £80–85 million per annum. This interactive event splits time between theory-based sessions at the Trentham Hotel and practical work on farm at Davochfin, covering the differences between types of lameness from scald to CODD and foot rot to toe granuloma, foot shears hygiene, prevention and cure, and a practical look at footbathing set-ups. Attendees gain insights and take-home ideas applicable to their own farm or croft, whether or not they currently have a lameness issue. The farm visit involves walking and standing on uneven ground, so appropriate footwear and outdoor clothing are recommended.
