The Box, Super Saturday Presents: The Way We Live (U) + Intro
About
A screening of Jill Craigie's 1946 documentary-drama The Way We Live, marking 80 years since its release, with an introduction from The Box, Plymouth.
Jill Craigie's 1946 documentary-drama The Way We Live explores the rebuilding of Plymouth after the devastation of the Second World War. Following the fictional Copperwheat family, the film depicts wartime loss, overcrowded housing and the ambitious plans to create a new, modern city, with local people — including 3,000 Plymouthian extras — at the heart of the story. Craigie was especially concerned that women and families be represented in debates about housing and reconstruction. The screening is introduced by The Box, Plymouth, and the film runs 64 minutes.
