Stories from the Past: The Inspiration and Research Behind Historical Fiction
About
Author A.C. Brokenshire leads a one-hour workshop on the inspiration and research behind historical fiction, part of the venue's Book Fest.
This hour-long workshop explores why authors write historical fiction and the research needed to bring stories to life, with examples from wartime short stories including one about a tailor and another about a suffragette milliner from Newton Abbot. Attendees are encouraged to bring a small personal item such as a photograph, medal or old toy to spark creative retelling of family stories. The author also introduces her forthcoming novel 'Golden Billy Button', about a young Cornish miner who leaves Plymouth in the 1860s to become a gold miner in Bendigo, Australia.
