Opera Australia: Turandot

Opera Australia's open-air staging of Puccini's Turandot, directed by Chen Shi-Zheng on Sydney Harbour, is presented on the big screen with acrobatics, fireworks and a soaring score.

Puccini's tale of the icy princess Turandot and the prince who risks the executioner's blade to win her is staged by Opera Australia on Sydney Harbour, directed by Chen Shi-Zheng. Dan Potra's striking set features an 18-metre-tall pagoda and a 60-metre fire-breathing dragon whose tail becomes the Great Wall, while Chinese acrobatics and fireworks lend the production a bold, modern flavour. Dragana Radakovic stars as Turandot opposite Riccardo Massi as Calaf, joined by a cast of more than 70 performers singing a score that includes 'Nessun dorma'.
