Origins and Diversions: Paintings on Canvas by Pete Hoida

A free exhibition of paintings on canvas by Birkenhead-born artist Pete Hoida, spanning his fifty-year painting career.

The Williamson Art Gallery presents an exhibition of canvas paintings by Pete Hoida, a Birkenhead-born artist who painted full-time in Stroud from 1974 until his death in 2023. His fifty-year career avoided drawing, imagery and narrative in favour of colour, brush-stroke and structure, with works from different periods echoing one another. The display includes a selection of his paintings, and he maintained links with the Wirral, with his video 'Black Severn Angel' filmed in New Brighton, The Priory and Rock Ferry.
