Moving Objects: stories from behind the scenes at the museum
About
A free exhibition at the Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology sharing stories of the objects and people involved in its five-year Stores Move Project.
Moving Objects draws on the Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology's Stores Move Project (2020–2025), during which over 40 people moved 320,000 objects from a former WWII aircraft factory store to the Centre for Material Culture, a converted Cold War bunker. Every object on display was moved as part of the project, and the exhibition celebrates the curators, collections staff, conservators and workshop teams who have worked with the collections. It explores the experiences and emotions of engaging with collections, from joy and surprise to reflection.
