About
Art historian Amina Wright lectures at Arundells on the evolving legends and artistic depictions of Saint Joseph.
A lunchtime art history lecture exploring the figure of Saint Joseph, Mary's husband, who never speaks in the Bible yet became familiar through Christmas cards, carols and nativity plays. The talk traces how the quiet carpenter emerged from obscurity over many centuries and how artists portrayed him, from wizened old man to powerful guardian. The speaker, Amina Wright, is a curator, lecturer and author with over three decades' experience of historic art collections, and in 2023 completed the Auckland Project's Faith Museum in County Durham.
