Jacob of Edessa’s Hexaemeron

A free lunchtime talk by Alison Salvesen on Jacob of Edessa's Syriac Hexaemeron and its blend of scripture and Greek science.

Alison Salvesen gives a lunchtime talk on Jacob of Edessa's Hexaemeron, a late antique work on the six days of creation. Writing in Syria under Umayyad rule, the Syriac Orthodox bishop combined Greek scientific views with scripture in an idiosyncratic legacy for his students. The talk runs 13:15–14:00 in the Buttery, with tea, coffee and cakes provided, and all are welcome; an optional lunch table in Hall from 12:30 is reserved for AWRC Cluster members.
