Schoolboys and Stage Plays: Education, Authority, and Drama in Stratford-upon-Avon's Guildhall
About
A talk by Dr Will Green on education, authority and drama in Stratford-upon-Avon's Guildhall, exploring the building's theatrical heritage.
Dr Will Green (School of Advanced Study, University of London) gives the second of two autumn talks exploring the theatrical heritage of Shakespeare's Schoolroom & Guildhall. 'Schoolboys and Stage Plays: Education, Authority, and Drama in Stratford-upon-Avon's Guildhall' examines how classical drama taught in the schoolroom collided with the arrival of travelling players in the same building, and how the tension between classroom discipline and theatrical freedom unfolded around young William Shakespeare. The talk lasts around one hour including Q&A.
