The Making Of An Old Master: Apprenticeship And Studio Life
About
Chantal Brotherton-Ratcliffe explores the demanding training and working conditions of early modern artists, including the barriers faced by aspiring women painters.
The lecture uses artworks to discuss apprenticeship, workshop routines, materials and the physical conditions of studio work. Chantal Brotherton-Ratcliffe is the billed lecturer. The usual lecture starts at 14:30 in the Courthouse Hotel Cinema Room, with doors at 14:00 and notices at 14:15. The usual finish is approximate, so the event duration remains unknown. The current Constitution permits one guest per member, if space permits, with the same guest attending at most two meetings per year. The current 2026/27 annual membership is £88; this is not a per-event ticket price. Any guest fee is unpublished.
