About

A Courtauld display spotlighting overlooked Bloomsbury artist Winifred Gill, featuring her Omega Workshops toy designs, a still life painting, later prints and sketchbooks.

This Courtauld display spotlights Winifred Gill (1891-1981), a gifted artist and central figure at Roger Fry's avant-garde Omega Workshops whose contributions have been largely overlooked. On show are her inventive toy designs for the Workshops, a still life painting characteristic of the Bloomsbury style in its bold response to colour and form, and later prints from the 1920s made while she taught arts and crafts at the Bristol and Manchester University Settlements. Sketchbooks and printing materials offer a deeper understanding of her practice.
