A Whole World in a Single Street: The Story of King’s Road, St Albans

A SAHAAS lecture in which Judy Sutton uses residents' first-hand accounts to tell the social history of King's Road, St Albans.

Judy Sutton, a long-time King's Road resident and SAHAAS member, draws on childhood recollections of former residents to describe everyday life for manual labourers and their families in the early 20th century. The lecture covers what the land was used for before housing, how the terraced houses were built, and an examination of the 1921 census. It lasts 90 minutes and is in person only at Dagnall Street Baptist Church.
