42nd Street (1933)

A Broadway show takes shape through rehearsal pressure and chorus-line ambition, culminating in elaborate musical numbers.

Set around a new stage production, 42nd Street turns behind-the-scenes troubles and the ambitions of its performers into a backstage musical. Busby Berkeley’s elaborate dance sequences, especially the title number, expand the story from rehearsal rooms into a stylised Broadway spectacle.
