About

Eric Isaacson of Mississippi Records tours his audio-visual show charting a people's history of underground musical resistance.

Eric Isaacson, founder of Mississippi Records, presents his latest touring audio/visual show, a roughly 90–100 minute performance-screening rather than an academic lecture. Using archival film, sound clips and images, it traces stories of anti-authoritarian resistance through underground music from Ethiopia, North Korea, Kenya, the USA and beyond. Topics range from Soviet-era X-Ray records and Ethiopian record distribution to propaganda misuse of music by power-obsessed leaders, delivered in Isaacson's characteristically offbeat, non-preachy style.
