Stella Sandford: Beauvoir, Biology and Dialectics

Stella Sandford rereads Simone de Beauvoir’s discussion of biology through feminist biology writing and the relation between organism and society.

The lecture places Beauvoir’s chapter on biology in The Second Sex alongside French writing on reproductive biology and anglophone feminist biology work. It considers a social rather than individual-versus-species frame for thinking about human biology.
