Cutting and Balsam Bashing on Chiswick Eyot

A GoodGym Hounslow volunteer session helping Thames21 and the Old Chiswick Protection Society cut withy branches and build erosion defences on Chiswick Eyot.

Volunteers join GoodGym Hounslow to support conservation work on Chiswick Eyot, a nature reserve and ancient withy bed in the Thames threatened by burrowing Chinese Mitten Crabs. Working with Thames21 and the Old Chiswick Protection Society, participants cut branches from Duke's Meadow and weave them into fences to shore up the eroding banks. Tools are provided, wellies are recommended for the mud, and the session is open to anyone aged 18 or over.
