East Is East

Ayub Khan-Din's comedy-drama about a Pakistani-English family in 1970s Salford runs at Salisbury Playhouse from 3 to 14 November 2026.

Set in Salford in 1971, the play follows the Khan family living above a chip shop, torn between Pakistani tradition and English culture. When patriarch George Khan begins arranging marriages for his sons, his seven children rebel and loyalties are tested. Ayub Khan-Din's semi-autobiographical modern classic mixes comedy with harder themes including racism, domestic abuse and generational conflict. The production, directed by Kash Arshad, includes BSL signed, captioned, audio-described and touch tour performances.
