Fossil Mary: The Legend of Mary Anning, the World’s Greatest Fossil Hunter
About
Elizabeth Blake performs a one-woman show about pioneering fossil hunter Mary Anning, her discoveries and the credit denied to her.
Elizabeth Blake, a Phoenix Associate Artist, performs a one-woman show about pioneering palaeontologist Mary Anning, who found her first ichthyosaur fossil in Lyme Regis aged 12. The piece explores how her discoveries reshaped ideas about the evolution of life on Earth, while her work was credited to the male scientists who spurned her. It also covers her later recognition, including the Royal Society naming her one of the ten most influential female scientists in 2010 and NASA naming a Mars drilling site after her. The show follows a sell-out performance the previous year.
