The Mummy

In 1881 Upper Egypt, a young man from a clan secretly plundering a hidden cache of royal mummies faces a moral reckoning as the Antiquities Service closes in.

Shadi Abdel Salam's celebrated 1969 drama draws on the true story of the Abd el-Rasuls family, who sold treasures from a pharaonic tomb they had discovered near Kurna. Set on the eve of British colonial rule, the film follows one clan member's crisis of conscience when officials arrive. Starring Ahmed Marei, Ahmed Hegazi and Nadia Lotfi, it remains a landmark of Egyptian historical cinema.
