Mary Magdalene: Woman and Myth

Paintings and contemporary artworks explore how Mary Magdalene’s image has changed across centuries.

The exhibition traces interpretations of Mary Magdalene as witness, saint and sinner, from Renaissance painting to contemporary sculpture. Works include paintings by Carlo Crivelli, Annibale Carracci and Giovanni Girolamo Savoldo, a loan by Pierre Puvis de Chavannes, and recent work by Jesse Jones, Alice Maher and Rachel Fallon. Organised by the National Gallery with Walker Art Gallery; the 2027 tour also visits Sheffield and Bishop Auckland.
