About

A talk by Jonathan Moor on the 1554 memorial brass of William Foxe at St Giles, Ludford, exploring brass rubbing and the life of a 16th-century recusant philanthropist.

Jonathan Moor, a long-standing member of the Monumental Brass Society, gives a talk on the fine 1554 memorial brass at St Giles, Ludford, commemorating William Foxe, his wife and family. The lecture explores the history behind the brass and the story of Foxe, a sixteenth-century recusant philanthropist, alongside the enduring English pastime of brass rubbing — a hobby once enjoyed by T.E. Lawrence and William Morris. The event lasts 90 minutes and refreshments are included.
