Stuart Langley: Polishing Turds
About
A solo exhibition by Teesside artist Stuart Langley, bringing playful installation work first shown in Fukuoka, Japan back to Middlesbrough.
Polishing Turds is a solo exhibition by Teesside artist Stuart Langley, developed during his recent period living, working and exhibiting in Japan, where it was first presented at OVERGROUND in Fukuoka in March 2026. The show transforms everyday, overlooked and deliberately ridiculous objects, materials and language through Langley's colourful, playful installation practice, with humour underpinned by interests in optimism, cultural misunderstanding and finding value in unlikely places. It forms part of Konnichiwa, Teesside!, an evolving two-way exchange between artists in Fukuoka and Teesside. An opening reception takes place on Thursday 5 November at 6pm, and the exhibition is open Wednesdays to Saturdays, 12pm–4pm.
