Hallé Orchestra - St John Passion
About
The Hallé Orchestra and Choir perform Bach's St John Passion under Baroque specialist Laurence Cummings at The Bridgewater Hall.
The Hallé Orchestra and Hallé Choir present Bach's St John Passion, an intimate and dramatic telling of the Easter story from the Garden of Gethsemane through Jesus's arrest, trial and death. Narrated by a tenor Evangelist, the work unfolds through fast-paced sung dialogue, expressive arias and vivid choral writing depicting the crowd. Laurence Cummings conducts a cast including Ed Lyon as Evangelist, George Humphreys as Christus and Jonathan Brown as Pontius Pilate, with Matthew Hamilton directing the Hallé Choir. The performance runs approximately 114 minutes, with pre-concert foyer music.
