Between Life and Death: Stories of Rescue during the Holocaust
About
A free international exhibition at Holocaust Centre North telling stories of those who rescued persecuted Jews during the Second World War.
Between Life and Death: Stories of Rescue during the Holocaust brings together accounts of rescuers and survivors from fifteen European countries, honouring those who helped persecuted Jews despite the threat of imprisonment, deportation or death. Each story is placed in its broader historical context to show how local conditions shaped survival and opportunities to help. Featured stories include Eva Paddock, who came to Britain on a Nicholas Winton Kindertransport, and London sisters Ida and Louise Cook, recognised as Righteous Among the Nations. The exhibition is a joint initiative of the European Network Remembrance and Solidarity, the POLIN Museum in Warsaw and the Silent Heroes Memorial Centre in Berlin, and runs at Holocaust Centre North from 1 to 29 October 2026.
