Paint a Portrait in Oils with Catherine Macdiarmid

A one-day oil painting workshop with artist Catherine Macdiarmid, guiding participants through completing a portrait in oils.

Artist Catherine Macdiarmid leads a six-hour workshop in which participants complete a portrait in oils over a single day. The session covers preparing surfaces, using painting mediums and mark making, mapping out an underpainting in tones, and building up layers of skin tone and colour. Learning combines practical work, tutor demonstrations and group discussion, with a maximum of 14 participants aged 16 and over. Attendees bring their own oil paints, primed surfaces, brushes and solvents, with materials also available from the on-site Design shop.
