Hut 9 - A New Play
About
Company of Sirens and Tanio stage Tim Rhys's new play Hut 9, weaving the 1945 Island Farm POW escape into a dystopian near-future Bridgend.
Hut 9 is a new play by Tim Rhys, directed by Chris Durnall, presented by Company of Sirens and Tanio and performed in English. It interweaves the true story of the 70 German prisoners who escaped from Island Farm camp in Bridgend on 10 March 1945 with an imagined near-future in which the site has been rebuilt as a detention centre where civil liberties have been stripped away. Drawing on verbatim testimonies from local people, the drama examines power, extremism and political repression, with an original live score by Stacey Blythe and design by Lydia Durnall.
