Field to Fashion Exhibition
About
A free exhibition at the Museum of Making tracing wool's journey from British sheep farms through spinning and knitting into finished clothing.
Field to Fashion explores how raw British fleece becomes the clothes we wear, from sheep farming and fibre processing to spinning and knitwear. Visitors can touch real fleece supplied by British Wool and learn about the craft of spinning. The exhibition also delves into the history of Derbyshire knitwear maker John Smedley, producing garments since 1784, and showcases work by De Montfort University and Derby college students alongside artists, designers and makers. It forms part of the Field to Fashion project funded by Art Fund and Rolls-Royce within Derby Museums' STEAM Learning programme, and is suitable for all ages.
