BBC NOW: War and Peace

A concert by BBC NOW pairing Ravel, Vaughan Williams and Sibelius's First Symphony, with baritone Steffan Lloyd Owen.

This BBC NOW programme traces war and peace through music of remembrance, journeying and joy. Ravel's Le Tombeau de Couperin, his 1917 suite reimagined for orchestra, opens the concert, followed by Vaughan Williams's Songs of Travel sung by baritone Steffan Lloyd Owen. After the interval comes Sibelius's Symphony No. 1 in E minor, from its brooding clarinet opening to its forceful finale.
