About
An orchestral concert pairing Ravel's Le Tombeau de Couperin, Vaughan Williams's Songs of Travel and Sibelius's First Symphony at BBC Hoddinott Hall.
An evening of music on themes of remembrance, journeying and resilience. Ryan Bancroft conducts Ravel's Le Tombeau de Couperin, his 1917 suite reimagined for orchestra, before baritone Steffan Lloyd Owen sings Vaughan Williams's Songs of Travel. After the interval comes Sibelius's Symphony No. 1 in E minor, premiered in 1899, with its brooding clarinet opening, striking solos and forceful finale.
