Study Day - Shakespeare, The Merry Wives of Windsor (1597) & Othello (1603-4)
About
A study day with Dr Pamela Mason comparing Shakespeare's Merry Wives of Windsor and Othello, both centred on married couples and jealousy.
Dr Pamela Mason leads a study day examining two Shakespeare plays that focus primarily on married couples, showing how comedy and tragedy treat the same traits when jealousy causes disruption — resolved in Windsor but with tragic consequences in Venice. The day runs from 10.15am to 4pm with four sessions, short breaks and an hour for lunch. Material is provided, including written texts and film extracts, and participants may contribute to discussion but are not required to. Attendees come from a variety of backgrounds, with no preparation necessary.
