City at Night walking tour
About
A two-hour guided night-time walking tour through Smithfield, Charterhouse Square, St Bartholomew's Hospital and the Barbican, exploring how the City of London changes after dark.
Open City's City at Night walking tour takes a group from twilight into darkness around Smithfield, Charterhouse Square, St Bartholomew's Hospital and the Barbican, taking in markets, churches, hospitals and housing. The route covers roughly 4.5km over about two hours, tracing how this part of London has been shaped from the 1100s to the late 20th century and considering what might change in future. The walk is mostly on pavements with some uneven footing, and much of it takes place in the dark. It is led by Hannah Adler, a graduate of Open City's Golden Key Academy who joined the tours team in May 2026.
