Underdog: the Other Other Brontë
About
Sarah Gordon's funny, fast-paced play re-tells the Brontë story from Charlotte's viewpoint, championing overlooked sister Anne, performed by an ensemble of five.
Sarah Gordon's Underdog is a boisterous re-telling of the Brontë story narrated by Charlotte Brontë, who bounds into the auditorium and addresses her modern audience while defending her role in the family's fame — and explaining how youngest sister Anne became the 'underdog' of literary history. The bold, funny play features over 30 characters played with frantic energy by an ensemble of five actors with around 50 costume changes. Directed by Lou Wallace, it runs at the Barn Theatre from 13th to 21st November 2026 with evening performances at 8pm and a Saturday matinee at 2.30pm.
