Celtic Beethoven
About
A BBC Hoddinott Hall concert marking 200 years since Beethoven's death, exploring his settings of Irish, Scottish and Welsh folk melodies.
This concert marks 200 years since Beethoven's death by celebrating his connections to the folk traditions of the British Isles. Conducted by Grant Llewellyn, with baritone Gwilym Bowen Rhys, piper Carlos Núñez Muñoz and harpist Catrin Finch, the programme features Beethoven's settings of Irish, Scottish and Welsh melodies, including The Vale of Clwyd, The Return to Ulster and The Pulse of an Irishman. A specially arranged performance of the Welsh lullaby Suo Gân sits alongside Scottish and Irish airs and variations, and the concert opens with the finale of Symphony No. 7.
