About

A free public lecture by Dr Elizabeth Driver on the history of the Deccani Sultanates and the clash between Hindu and Muslim dynasties in medieval India.

Dr Elizabeth Driver, a member of the Royal Asiatic Society's Council, traces the expansion of Islam into the southern Indian subcontinent from the 14th century, covering the Khalji and Tughlag incursions, the rise of the Vijayanagara empire and the Bahmani Sultanate, and the five successor Deccani Sultanates whose rivalry culminated in the destruction of Vijayanagara in 1565. The talk takes place in the Society's Lecture Hall and is also available remotely via Zoom webinar. It is free and open to all.
