Lecture: Architecture and Identity: St Fagans Castle
About
Architectural historian Dr Bethan Scorey lectures on the history of St Fagans Castle and three figures who shaped the house and gardens.
Dr Bethan Scorey, author of a new University of Wales Press book on St Fagans Castle, presents a lecture on how three individuals left their mark on the Elizabethan manor house and its gardens. She discusses Dr John Gibbon's pioneering symmetrical Elizabethan house, Harriet Windsor-Clive's heraldic and Gothic additions, and Alberta 'Gay' Windsor-Clive's Italianate garden influences. The talk draws on architectural, garden, art and social history, including themes of female patronage and colonial legacies, with the book available to purchase on the evening.
