The History of Gothic Fiction & Dark Academia - Talks in the Pub
About
A pub talk by Dr Sarah Gamble tracing the history of Dark Academia and Gothic fiction, from classic Gothic ideas to its modern appeal.
Seed Talks presents an evening talk on the history of Dark Academia, exploring how the aesthetic draws on classic Gothic themes of murder, dark magic and hidden crimes while reflecting modern anxieties about education, privilege and access to knowledge. Doors open at 6pm with the talk starting at 6:15pm, running for 90 minutes with pub snacks available. The speaker is Dr Sarah Gamble, Associate Professor in English Literature at Swansea University and specialist in contemporary Gothic fiction and women's writing. A second talk on the history of the female vampire runs the same evening as a separate ticketed event.
